"The Mudslinger" was aptly named in a battle of cold legs, peanut butter mud and long, long two-track climbs. All in all a really fun course, great change from the swoopy, dry trails around Bend, OR and oh yeah...the Oregon State XC Championships.
The drive over in the morning provided a little foreshadowing of conditions to come with heavy snow falling on Santiam Pass and black clouds of death hanging over Corvallis, OR. Arriving in the nick of time, James and I used the roll up to the line as our warm up and shouldered into the fairly good sized Pro field.
My race can be summed up with the first 3 mile climb as the tempo hit hammer pace and my legs pedaled squares instead of circles. I dangled off the lead group of 5 rooting on Fast Jimmy and enjoyed the super slick, clay mud singletrack downhills and the 4000ft of climbing (not so much) in the 24mile course finishing up 7th on the day.
All in all a fun, hard course perfect for crowning the new state champ. You can check out the race summary at: http://www.mudslingerevents.com/21st-peak-sports-mudslinger/
