Well, the Weekend Update on SNL can be funny, but racing through snow drifts is not. It felt like we were two bit actors in a parody of an actual mountain bike race Saturday up at Bear Springs near Mt Hood, Oregon. While trying to act serious we felt ridiculous doing the one-pedal / one-foot-down shimmy scoot through the snow drifts...and this was just for the 30min short-track. I guess living in the snowy Bend, OR must have benefits because I managed to take the win before noticing my roached drivetrain and various icebound mechanical issues.
Decided to pass on the XC after pre-walking the "course" and opted for some Bend singletrack therapy on Sunday. 58 miles of singletrack, 6500ft of climbing and 5 hrs in the sun did just the trick. Managed to check out a portion of the 100 mile High Cascades MTB race we're putting on here on August 23rd. Always nice to finish the day with a smile (and a good bonk).
